fall 2022 anime conclusion
a full list of all anime aired in the fall 2022 season can be found here: https://www.livechart.me/fall-2022/all.
introduction
fall 2022 was... a really impressive season that will probably not be forgotten at least within 2023. a ton of big names in recent anime can be found in this season, and there were also some really unexpectedly good ones popping up from nowhere as well.
ever since i started following seasonal anime releases in spring 2022, starting from watching 10+ anime per season, somehow in fall 2022 the number increased to 21 lol... and there are also 7 of them that will continue air in winter 2023, so good luck to me, i guess.
this post will only cover the ones that i have watched in the past season, so don't ask me "where tf is bleach?22?" because i didn't even watch the 300+ episodes before the thousand year blood war arc aired in fall 2022, or just anything that i did not list out in this post.
THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS
so please read them at your own discretion. i am not responsible for you getting spoiled from this post, you have been warned.
ok warning's over, let's jump into it.
some highlights from this season
anime to sit down and watch with your family - spy x family (both parts)
- genre: comedy, childcare, slice of life
- number of episodes: 12 (part 1, aired in spring 2022) + 13 (part 2)
- myanimelist / anilist
spy x family has been an extremely big name ever since its first part came out in spring 2022, and since i am defenceless over anything cute, i fell instantly in love with this show and of course, anya (fbi open up). spy x family is simply so wholesome and funny at the same time, even my mom, who does not pay attention to anime at all, knows who anya is after seeing me watching an episode of spy x family on the tv one day. you can just sit back and have a laugh for 30 minutes while aww'ing over the wholesomeness of the forger family. a movie and s2 of the anime will come out in 2023, so now is the time to drag your family to have a quick 30-minute laugh on netflix or something.
i came across with a video on youtube discussing which anime should be "anime of the year"? and it mentioned that "anime of the year" should be an anime that first popped up in your mind when speaking of "anime released in 2022" a few years later, just like when speaking of anime released in 2012, the first anime that popped up is definitely sword art online. spy x family definitely fits this position for me due to its huge success, attracting both adult and even children to watch this show, it also became a topic of discussion with my friends who don't normally watch anime as well. that's why spy x family is on the top of this list (the following ones are not listed with a particular order though), as it is the first anime that came into my mind when listing out anime i've watched from this season. like it or not, you just have to admit that it's an extremely commerically successful anime released in 2022.
anime to relate to if you're socially awkward - bocchi the rock
- genre: comedy, slice of life, cute girls doing cute things
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
no one expected bocchi the rock, a manga time kirara work, would have an average rating of 9 on myanimelist (the ones that are scored 9 or above are mostly shounen manga published on shounen jump). i am an introvert that is kind of socially awkward and overthinks a lot in social situtaions, and bocchi the rock accurately depicts my struggles internally when interacting with others in a funny and relatable way. you can also feel the the animators are definitely having fun with the show, no matter it's the nhk-style mockumentary, the accidental cyberpunk parody, or even a parody to the manga time kirara works itself.
apart from that, cloverworks gave a SHIT TON of details to the live performances of kessoku band, hell, they even recorded a "off-beat" version of guitar, loneliness and the blue planet that you can clearly hear that there's something wrong with it, even if you know nothing about music arrangements.
a lot of people compare bocchi the rock to k-on!, but i feel like they are completely different works that should be appreciated in their own way. now go listen to the full kessoku band album on youtube or spotify or i will hunt you down.
anime to cringe over your middle school chuunibyou - the eminence in shadow
- genre: isekai, cringe comedy
- number of episodes: 20 (13 aired as of 1/1/2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
if you were obsessed with anime during middle school or something, chances are you probably had a chuunibyou phase where you would imagine yourself being some kind of fantasy creature that has a lot of hidden power... myself included, and we do not talk about it, ever, again. the eminence in shadow just reminds you of this phase as the mc is exactly one of these people, except he just wants to be a mystery side-character that appears at the last minute to save the world then hides his identity for the rest of his life. but he got hit by truck-kun because he was craving magic powers by seeing a bright af light in front of his way so he chased for it... chuuni enough, ain't it? after being isekai'ed, he got the magic powers he had craved in his previous life, then somehow everything he made up on the spot became actual reality (without him actually knowing), sasuga shadow-sama!
his isekai life is kind of a cringe comedy to me which can be a hit-or-miss to you, but this isekai is definitely not the generic isekai that you would find in the wild as the mc does not actively start a harem (all he cares about is his side-character dream, he ain't got no time for the girls falling for him) and does not show off his op powers often, even if he does, you know that he's just doing it for the a e s t h e t i c. i heavily recommend the eminence in shadow if you don't mind an overpowered mc, and honestly as someone who normally hates isekai as a genre, i enjoyed it very much, so i hope that you can give it a chance to find your own enjoyment too.
ok also the whole "i am atomic" asmr gives me fucking goosebumps. having a nosebleed cuz of how unironically badass cid is.
anime that will make you question life, universe and everything - pop team epic (both seasons)
- genre: absurdist comedy, parody,
kuso - number of episodes: 12 (s1) + 2 (tv special) + 12 (s2)
- myanimelist / anilist
shit manga and shit anime is back with even shittier content that is out of human comprehension. pop team epic is that kind of anime that you don't know what the fuck did the animators smoke in order to make something this crazy, that they almost owned the word "kuso (shit) manga" and probably the only manga ever that is allowed to put a whole middle finger on their covers, that it has become a compliment at this point. please someone save aoi shouta from getting kidnapped by king records. also myanimelist decided to not count the last episode as it's a whole episode of a kamen rider parody which is why you found it saying it only has 11 episodes, like wtf myanimelist, that IS the 12th episode of pop team epic.
ok in all seriousness, you probably won't get pop team epic if you are new to anime or did not pay that much attention to the japanese entertainment industry, that you would wonder why is the same episode aired twice (but with different voice actor combinations). it's also better to simply treat pop team epic as a weekly meme compilation instead of a full scale anime, as it's designed to be watched in a weekly release manner, instead of binging it in one sitting. in short, if you want to watch a parody of basically everything in japanese anime, seiyuu (voice actors), tokusatsu (live-action superhero series in japan) or any other forms of japanese entertainment, then the kuso manga rabbit hole is always open for you, or else, just keep yourself clean.
i am still waiting for kamiya hiroshi + ono daisuke (levi & erwin from attack on titan) and/or matsuoka yoshitsugu + shimazaki nobunaga (kirito & eugeo from sword art online) to be on pop team epic as popuko and pipimi ;-;
anime that fits just right with the football season - bluelock
- genre: sports (football), shounen
- number of episodes: 24 (12 released as of 1/1/2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
to be completely honest, i don't really give 2 shits about the world cup, as i know nothing about football. however, bluelock anime went on twitter trending after japan has won germany with a score of 2-1, as apparently the japan football (yes it is called FOOTball, not some shit like "soccer") team has been criticized by the public that they don't know how to score a goal in a football tournament, hence the manga bluelock was created in the first place. the manga became so popular that i could already find character goods of it being sold in anime stores over here even before the anime started airing.
despite it being labelled as a football manga, the main focus is about the characters being "egoist", or being selfish, in order to survive in bluelock, unlike other manga of the same type that focuses the team spirit of a team sport. i found myself interested in it as it seemed like a survival game of football, which is a pretty unique theme. the animation looks pretty cool, and as somewhat a fujoshi myself, there are already quite a number of possible couples that i find myself interested in bluelock. i can't wait for what will happen in the coming 12 episodes as well.
anime that will make you go "wtf did i just watch?" but makes complete sense - akiba maid war
- genre: comedy, action
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
watch the video attached above without any context, then you'll get the same reaction as most of us watching episode 1 when it first came out. technically, maid cafes in akihabara weren't a thing before around the early to mid 2000s, so you can also treat this as a historical fiction as it depicted a what-if timeline where maid cafes existed back in 1999, but it was way more underground and ...violent. as the story progresses, you'll find out that it's a rather simple story between maid gangs fighting with each other, and how our mc tries to change the way it is by telling everyone that a maid values their master (i.e. customer) the most. it might seem a bit clichéd at the end, but at least i was happy with it, as this is the simplest ending that you can imagine.
also the official twitter account would make a "death comment" post after every main side character is killed in the latest episode, asking the seiyuu of that respective character to leave a signed written comment to their thoughts of their character being killed, so if you scroll through the official twitter accounts of an anime, DO NOT touch akiba maid war's before completed the whole thing, or you are basically spoiled by the death comment posts.
anime that you thought is a mecha but is actually a reverse harem - mobile suit gundam: the witch from mercury
- genre: mecha, sci-fi, yuri,
reverse harem, ntr - number of episodes: 12 (11 aired as of 1/1/2023) + part 2 airing in april 2023
- myanimelist / anilist
i didn't know that gundam is not that popular in the western anime community comparing to how it's basically known by every person in japan or east asia ;-; ? honestly i know little to nothing about the whole gundam franchiase as well, but you can still watch the witch from mercury without knowing anything about the gundam franchiase beforehand, just remember to watch the prologue episode 0 before actually getting into it to have yourself a basic image of the world view of this series.
tbh i am only here for the opening done by yoasobi as im a big fan of their music, but turns out that the series itself is pretty enjoyable. you'll get suletta screaming "eh?!?!?!" at the end of almost every episode, and her accidentally getting herself a harem of male characters falling for her after losing to her in a battle, but she already has a bride to start with, hence ntr. also i can't get over the fact that most suletta fanarts are her as racoons lmao??? i also saw a fanart somewhere on twitter where if suletta and bocchi (from bocchi the rock mentioned above) met each other in a room, it would just be both of them stuttering for a whole hour lol. so basically, just watch this for suletta being cute af then it's already enough for me.
anime that will melt your heart with cute boys being clumsy at times - play it cool, guys (cool doji danshi)
- genre: cute boys doing cute things, slice of life, light comedy, iyashi-kei
- number of episodes: 24 (12 aired as of 1/1/2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
cool doji danshi is no doubt one of my personal underrated favourites of this season, it's also what got me into the genre of cute boys doing cute things as well.
it's a simple story of 4 guys being clumsy at times and how they face their accidental mistakes in their lives, and some of them are quite relatable i would say, for example, playing music on your phone while forgetting to plug in your headphones, attempting to put on eye drop while having your glasses on... according to the manga author, it's basically a compilation of these little accidents that the readers have submitted online or witnessed in real life. just take 10 minutes of your week (especially it's simulcasted on a monday night, which is a perfect fit for a working adult like me) to have a wholesome laugh before going to sleep at night, then your stress will go away, at least within these 10 minutes.
also hey the 4 guys are handsome and cute af as well. as a simple female, i am 100% into these type of laid-back cute guys.
anime that is a mix of basically everything generic then boom - love flops
- genre: harem, comedy, ecchi, sci-fi, romance
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
a lot of people dropped this early on because it seems like some generic harem shit that has been cliched for the last 10 years, even the voice actor cast of the main characters has been in at least 1 harem anime in the past 10 years. then episode 8 occured, that made everyone's minds blown away, turns out all that generic harem shit was all on purpose, the mc is trapped in a simulation, and all the girls were just ais???? this is why i decided to stick until the last bit as much as i don't like ecchi harem anime, because making an original anime almost 10 years after the whole ecchi harem genre trend got replaced by isekai, i just felt like it defnitely wasn't as simple as what we see, and i was right lol.
i didn't even expect myself to cry at the final episode when asahi and ai had to say goodbye to each other too ;-; ? altho i felt like the anime should've just ended after showing that asahi has moved on and met new friends in high school instead of showing the ai girls getting a body and moving into his house again to force a happy ending, the twist was really unexpected that would probably be one of the biggest plot twists in 2022.
the generic ecchi harem stuff in the early episodes almost felt like a parody to this genre, as all the tropes used literally happened under 10 minutes in episode 1, and it felt like they were exaggerated a lot just for the parody effect of this whole genre. but anyways, i loved this parody to this ecchi harem genre, even i'm not a fan of it in the first place.
anime that reminds you how good it feels to fall in love with someone - bibilophile princess
- genre: shoujo, romance
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
i think it's been a few years since we get a proper shoujo manga adaptation, and as someone who would pick these kind of anime to watch mostly based on the cast list, i immediately have it saved when i found out that kimura ryouhei is voicing the main guy in bibilophile princess, and losing my shit every week hearing the asmr whispers through my headphones.
story-wise, it's a very simple story between the main characters falling in love with each other and the main girl, elianna, having an inferiority complex thinking she's not good enough for the prince, christopher. i could kind of relate to elianna's inferiority complex which could affect a relationship a lot, but man, shoujo mangas are really a depiction of what a perfect relationship would seem like to a simple female who feels insecure about herself, that i wish i would meet someone as good as christopher in real life. now that i have finished watching bibilophile princess, the only thing i'd like to say is that it reminded me of the good times of simply falling in love with someone. (cries in single)
anime that would bring you all the sega nostalgia - isekai ojisan
- genre: parody, isekai, gag humour, comedy
- number of episodes: 13 (12 aired as of 1/1/2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
ok technically this is a summer 2022 anime, but due to covid (more of a production issue imo, like who tf still uses covid as an excuse in 2022?) it's been delayed to this season (and episodes 4 to 7 was already delayed once beforehand), and the official twitter account announced that they are delaying the final episode until further notice... but anyways
isekai ojisan is a reverse-isekai, as the story starts from ojisan coming back from an isekai after 17 years. therefore, you'd find a lot of 90s to early 2000s gaming references (especially ojisan is a huge sega fan, like even sega themselves decided to collab with isekai ojisan as well) and a parody to the isekai genre. altho being a 2000s kid who grew up with an nintendo ds i didn't understand most of the sega references in it, i still had a lot of fun watching isekai ojisan just for its parody to anime, mostly isekai, in general. as ojisan was isekai'd 17 years ago (at year 2000 in the story), obviously he did not know about tsundere characters and the isekai genre, which sparked a lot of humour with him facing the girls in the other world, and my reaction to ojisan's unintentional dumb acts are basically the same as takafumi and fujimiya's lol.
also wtf netflix why did you stop updating the episodes from episode 8? didn't you buy all streaming rights worldwide but now it's only found on netflix japan?
anime to heal your soul with cute stop-motion - pui pui molcar driving school
- genre: stop-motion, comedy, iyashi-kei
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
this fall season is full of big names in recent anime, that even pui pui molcar is back for a sequel season to join this party. pui pui molcar is originally intended for kids, but it became unexpectedly popular in japan and most of east asia among adults when the first season came out in winter 2021. in this new season, they even found another real guinea pig to "voice" the molcars in this series, and more new moclars are introduced apart from the main 5 introduced in s1.
"only kids watch kimetsu no yaiba, adults watch pui pui molcar" is a satirical saying from last year among anime fans in chinese-speaking regions, indicating its popularity not just among kids. in s2, the main spirit in s1 is mostly upheld, you also get to see some movie references, or even references to s1. you also get to see character development in some of the molcars, all done under 3 minutes per episode.
so basically, everything you found in s1 can also be found in s2, and even more than that, and it would be a very healing ride just to hear guinea pigs squeaking for 3 minutes straight in every episode.
on to the ones that idk how to give a label to...
chainsaw man
- genre: dark fantasy, urban fanatsy, shounen
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
chainsaw man is probably the most controversial series in this season. it was hyped up A LOT, but people started to complain when mappa announced that they're gonna use a cast of relatively new seiyuus (denji's voice actor, toya kikunosuke, is almost a complete newbie to the seiyuu industry that he didn't even have his own japanese wikipedia page before chainsaw man), especially towards makima's seiyuu choice. then after it aired, the manga readers complained on the direction choice by the director is too "aesthetic" comparing to the overall "insane" vibe that the manga gave out, the use of cgi seemed off, denji and makima's voice acting being too bland, etc etc.
i decided to go into this series completely blind without knowing anything prior, honestly the story is very intriguing that i bought the whole manga set after mappa decided not to announce a sequel series at the day episode 12 aired (but i haven't got the time to read it as of typing), i felt like i am watching a movie instead of a tv anime, but honestly i am not a fan of the fight scenes except for the denji vs katana man fight at episode 12. if you ask me if i liked the chainsaw man anime? i would say yes, i absolutely enjoyed every episode, but was there anything in particular that makes this series stand out from other shounen series's? honestly i can't come up with anything either. chainsaw man just stands a very weird place to me, as it's good in a lot of ways, but unlike the ones mentioned above that i can particularly point out what's so good with it in one sentence, chainsaw man just feels complicated to even sum up with one single sentence.
btw the obligatory favourite ed ranking would be first death (episode 8), chainsaw blood (episode 1), violence (episode 11), time left (episode 2), hawatari 2-centi (episode 3), in the back room (episode 5), then the rest goes into a category that i can't rank further.
my hero academia s6
- genre: shounen, action, super power
- number of episodes: 25 (13 aired as of 1/1/2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
my hero academia was one of the first series's that i watched during my comeback to the anime rabbithole back in 2020 and i followed the seasonal release of s5 last year, but decided to simply skip to the last few episodes as it was really, really, really dragged long for no reason. but well according to manga readers, this is where stuff gets exciting, so i'm gonna stick for one more season i guess.
at least from the first 3 episodes, the execution of s6 is already way better than s5. bones making satisfying fight scenes as usual, and the story just got to the main point that instantly became way more exciting to watch between the heroes and villans fighting. at least in the first arc of s6, every episode did show a main subplot, especially for the dabi dance bit (although i was spoilered about this part a long time ago), the storytelling of it is just very remarkable that i will always remember it's season 6 episode 11 where dabi made his reveal on how endeavour abused his family. let's hope the second arc's execution will be as good as the first arc.
mob psycho 100 III
- genre: super power, coming of age, overpowered mc
- number of episodes: 12 (s1) + 13 (s2) + 12 (s3)
- myanimelist / anilist
it's not like i don't like mob psycho 100 that it goes under this "idk how to label this" category, but it's too good to be simply contained with 1 sentence.
loving bones' fight scenes as usual, reigen opening up with mob at the end just hits differently now that we know sakurai takahiro is a big af cheater irl... mob is definitely the most loveable character out of all characters in fall 2022, in the first 2 seasons we saw him grow from an introverted kid who does not show his emotions often to showing love and care to the people around him, then in s3 we got to see mob facing his inner self and finally laughing wholeheartedly at the very end, as well as how mob affected people around him that they all came to help mob in the final story arc. mob psycho 100 is a very heartwarming story seeing the connection between all characters in the story affecting each other in some way, and even though reigen has been using mob for this whole time solely for his business, he showed actual care to mob that mob accepted who he is despite knowing the fact that he's being used by the person he trusts the most.
so what's the key takeaway from all 3 seasons of mob psycho 100? to me it is as simple as "treat people kindly", and mob psycho 100 manages to execute this idea through a very impressive story that knows what exactly it's doing. it doesn't have to be complicated, a simple story as this can give you the most unforgettable life lesson, which is exactly the charm of mob psycho 100.
thank you bones for adapting the full thing, and thank you mob choir for singing the numbered openings that finally comes into a full circle. it's definitely the "one and only one" of its kind.
to your eternity s2
- genre: fanatsy, adventure
- number of episodes: 20 (10 aired as of 1/1/2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
i loved to your eternity s1, the first episode was one of the most beautiful episodes of all anime i've watched, the later arcs showed fushi's different aspects of him learning to be a human, which is almost the example to how to write good character development in an adventure story. i had really high hopes for its sequel season, but 10 episodes in, something just felt... off to me.
in s2, it feels like the series has become a battle series instead of an adventure series. prince bon's character development kinda reminds me of how well written s1 is, but that's just pretty much it. like it's ok to mention how you prepare for the knockers attacking wherever fushi goes and him wanting to protect the people from the attacks, but it seems like the series has forgotten the whole point of this story, which is for fushi to learn a lesson on how to become a human in every adventure he goes on. at least now that the first arc is nearly coming to an end, i don't really see that much development in fushi himself tbh. or maybe i'm just getting the series wrong.
urusei yatsura (2022)
- genre: romcom, surreal comedy
- number of episodes: 23 (part 1) + 23 (to be released in 2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
i am very much aware that urusei yatsura is a manga from the 80s so i shouldn't be using today's standards to measure this series. i am also aware that it was a long-running series and episodic that there isn't really much plot to this whole series. however, i still don't like urusei yatsura.
not like i am a fan of the 80s version either (in fact i haven't even heard of it until i learned that it's getting a remake), however, lum as a character just does not seem appealing to me, at all. i am probably the only person in the world to dislike lum, as i've seen most urusei yatsura fans claiming lum as their waifus.
from episode 1 of this remake, lum has been an extremely annoying character to me (which in a way fits the title, as urusei yatsura is a pun to the sentence "those annoying people" in japanese), ataru has never said anything about marrying lum yet she just decides to invade ataru's life just because she hears the word "marriage", lum technically has no right to stop ataru from hooking up girls yet she just does it just because of her one-sided wish of being married to ataru, which i find her unlikeable at all. i don't understand why would ataru suddenly miss her when she returned back to her planet either, as he never admitted to liking lum in any shape or form, he just found her cute in a certain episode then continues to hook up other girls in the very next day.
however, the episodes that do not focus on lum are extremely funny, like the mendou family stories and the other aliens getting jealous over lum. that's probably why i still keep watching urusei yatsura at this point, and i guess also because of the appealing cast list (notably kamiya hiroshi & miyano mamoru). maybe it's just simply not my cup of tea.
kancolle: let's meet at the sea (itsuka ano umi de)
- genre: historical fiction, cute girls doing cute things, war
- number of episodes: 8 (5 aired as of 1/1/2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
engi, you had 3 years to prepare for this show, but you decided to keep delaying the episodes again and again, which lost a lot of fun to catch up to this show weekly.
i was sort of into kancolle in middle school (but i never managed to get into the game) because the characters in the 2015 anime version are appealing to me, so i'm basically trying to revisit my past favourite by watching the sequel season of the kancolle animation 7 years later. i am not a fan of the historical setting, but the girls fighting on the sea are exciting to watch. story-wise, i heard it's based on real-life historical events, so i am kind of expecting it to end in a tragedy, it's just we have to see how the execution of this story goes, as i love me with some impressive tragedy.
eternal boys
- genre: male idols, slice of life
- number of episodes: 24 (12 aired as of 1/1/2023)
- myanimelist / anilist
you know, there have been too many cross-media idol projects in the recent years that i just can't find one interesting enough to get myself into it (the first and last idol project that i paid attention to was lovelive!'s first generation). not like eternal boys has a really good animation of the liveshows, but only the premise "40-year-old uncles becoming idols" is enough for me to pay attention to this anime.
the struggles of a working adult facing their own lives are very real, and in my opinion, the idea of "it's never too late to achieve your dreams" is really good in itself, but in reality, 40-year-old uncles becoming idols are just going to either get them a lot of bipolar opinions. but it's always good to try out this idea in an anime, as the 2-d world is always good, isn't it?
aru asa dummy head mic ni natta ore-kun no jinsei (me-kun's life after becoming a dummy head mic on a morning)
- genre: asmr, yuri, cute girls doing cute things
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
the only episodes that actually has something to do with the show title are episodes 1, 11 and 12. the other episodes are the main guy becoming something else other than a dummy head mic. honestly the reason why i would watch this is because of sugita tomokazu voicing the main guy that goes orgasm when the girls speak beside the main character/object. ok maybe it's also the yuri elements that attracted me as well.
but overall speaking, this should just be something to play in the background when you are waiting for your cup noodles to be ready in 3 minutes, that gives you some quick asmr if you are into these kind of stuff.
shinobu no ittoki
- genre: ninja, action
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
idek how i surivived all 12 episodes of this, honestly i almost forgot most of the plot in this as the storytelling of this is extremely boring, although the concept of modern ninja tools are really cool, it just feels like the creators don't know how to use this element well in their execution of the story. it's just a simply forgettable anime after this season tbh.
i'm the villainess, so i'm taming the final boss
- genre: isekai, reincarnation, villianess-in-otome-game, romance
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
yes i said i don't like isekai/reincarnation, but i'm just here for the cast list, which i told myself that i will not do such thing again in the next season. story-wise, it went by extremely fast that i don't really see that many character development between the main couple, rather the side characters seem to be more attractive to me. ok maybe saito souma voicing "james charles" (yes that's the name of the character, although i feel like if that youtuber james charles gets a japanese dub souma would be a good fit as well lol) is something that i would probably remember from this anime, but that's pretty much about it.
human bug university
- genre: mystery, comedy
- number of episodes: 12
- myanimelist / anilist
this anime is based on the youtube channel of the same name, but honestly i did not know about the youtube channel before coming across with this anime. regardless, this anime is more of an educational anime that goes into some unexplainable cases from worldwise, while going through an actual story plot between the main character and his fiancee. the story is pretty interesting that i found it binge-worthy, maybe i will forget about it in a few years but at least when i look back to this anime some day in the future it leaves a good impression on me.
the little lies we all tell
- genre: slice of life, comedy
- number of episodes: 11

i almost forgot about this, and i feel like i probably have a turnoff towards aliens in anime that i have almost the same level of dislike i have for urusei yatsura as mentioned above. rikka (that alien character) is just extremely selfish to me that doesn't even treat the people on earth as proper living beings, the only why i sat through all 11 episodes of this was because of sekine and tsubasa being likeable characters, rikka and chiyo just don't seem to be appealing to me.
also i feel like the narration is not neceesary either, sometimes it even made the gag unfunny, it wasn't even good roast/tsukkomi, plus it already has a tsukkomi character so why do you need another narrator that does the same thing? i feel like this tries to be suzumiya haruhi with all the characters having a true identity to hide, yet the tropes seemed forced and the gags are not funny either (ok maybe the eva parody is funny but that's pretty much it), it's like it's trying to be some kind of cringe comedy but i can only smell cringe, not the comedy. the atmosphere this anime gives out is just simply embarrassing and the only thing that keeps me watching is sekine's roasts.
conclusion
fall 2022 season was going all out. we see big names such as chainsaw man, mob psycho 100, spy x family, my hero academia, gundam series, and even pop team epic are in the fight (insert smash meme here). at the same time, there are some unexpectedly good ones that stood their places despite having to compete with all the big names, bocchi the rock was a pleasant surprise, akiba maid war wow'ed a lot of people with its visual violence, as well as love flops that faked a lot of people to think it's some generic ecchi harem until it proved itself wrong. this season was a really pleasant season to follow, that i'm already missing it now that most of them have ended (my hero academia, blue lock, the eminence in shadow, urusei yatsura (2022), cool doji danshi, eternal boys and to your eternity are going to last for 2 cours, that kinda felt unreal seeing this amazing season has ended when there's like 7 of them are still airing in the next season).
since i did not actively follow seasonal anime releases in winter 2022 (only watched tokyo 24th ward and life with an ordinary guy who reincarnated into a total fantasy knockout from that season and watched sasaki and miyano and takagi-san a few months after their releases), i won't be making a 2022 anime conclusion post. maybe i will in 2023 if this blog is still running.
happy new year, although it's already 2023.
